Buying Guide: How to Choose the best Juicer

Difference between Juicers and Blenders

Juicers and Blenders

People often mistake juicers as blenders but they are actually different in functionality. By essence, juicers will squeeze out the juice from the fruit or vegetables so you get liquid with smooth consistency.

Blenders, on the other hand, are designed to mix several fruits and vegetables that will create a slurry type of liquid with thickness that’s dependent on the ingredient’s water content. Unless your blender is high-end, the resulting liquid would be filled with clumps of rind, seeds or even skin. So if you want easy-to-drink liquid, you need a juicer.

What are the Appropriate Fruits and Vegetables?

Appropriate Fruits and Vegetables

There is no right or wrong fruit and vegetable to juice. You only have to rely on the nutrient content, your expertise of operating the juicer and what type of vegetables or fruits you’re usually consuming. There are fruits and vegetables that produce more juice than others but generally you should avoid juicing fruits that are already soft in consistency because they have low water content and may clog your juicer in the process.

Nutrient-Filled Fruits and Vegetables

All fruits and vegetables are rich in enzymes, vitamins and minerals that are important in healthy diet but there are those that contain higher amount of nutrients than others. Vegetables have low sugar content than fruits so if you have underlying medical condition involving sugars like diabetes you should minimize sugar consumption.

Perhaps, adding a bit of flavor will not be too harmful once in a while. You could choose dark, green, leafy vegetables like collard greens, spinach and kale as these vegetables are rich in disease-deterring and anti-aging nutrients. But you need to keep these vegetables in small amount if you are still new to juicing. This allows your body to get accustomed to these vegetables. You should also bear in mind that green leafy vegetables are a little bitter so you should try to neutralize it with another vegetable or strong fruits.

Juicing doesn’t require a lot of preparation before you throw the ingredients into the juicer. However, it is ideal that you chop the fruits and vegetables first so that the juicer will have an easier job squeezing out the juice. This will also extend the lifespan of your machine. Also, when you juice out citrus fruits, you should remove the peel first so the process becomes easier.

These are the things that are required for you to learn when you want to create delicious juice recipes. With enough experience, you can now experiment on various healthy juice recipes.
